Xylon and Wendy
I'm Wendy - the person behind ilovedevotionals.com. I’m married to Xylon - a man who talks non-stop about cycling - and makes me laugh. I write for anyone who has ever held a loved one’s hand through illness, or believed in God despite hard circumstances or ever left on a spontaneous 2-week holiday through a foreign land with just a backpack.

I started writing devotionals while Xylon was undergoing chemotherapy for cancer as a way to express what I was learning on this journey.

He completed his chemotherapy in August 2012 but then in January 2013 we discovered he'd relapsed and the cancer was back. He went through further chemo and a stem cell transplant. That wasn’t a 100% successful. So he underwent radiation in December 2013. In May 2015 Xylon had a scan that indicated the cancer had recurred after a second opinion and biopsy we were told that there was no cancer. You can read a few thoughts Xylon had on that in this post. As of December 2017, we were told that there is only a 2% chance of recurrence. Xylon will continue having regular scans.

When Xylon was diagnosed we had been married less than a year and I had to lean completely on the God I had known and loved since I was four years old.

Often I comprehend that God loves me (but I think he kinda has to) it's more difficult to get that God really LIKES everything about me from the freckles on my nose to the funny way I pronounce some words. That's what I find incredible about my relationship with God and what I try to share.

I often write devotionals out of lessons learnt through my husbands cancer treatments and follow up appointments and some of the questions I find myself asking about healing

Lately, I've also been admitting some of the questions I have about God and writing about why I'm coming out as a Christian who doesn't go to church. I'm also writing a lot more out of a place of being okay with not having all the answers to big questions about God

I've also added some of what God is teaching me as I watch my nephew with Down Syndrome grow up.

A few other things you might be interested to know about me:

I don't like coffee. And I drink water like an elephant (they can drink up 100 litres a day).

When I take a holiday it's to a game park or to a country I've never been too.

I run an agency for nonprofits to improve there communications called solofundraiser

I read over 100 books each year.

I would love to hear from you about your moments when God collides with your everyday moments or how he shows up in the hard stuff
