I’m not that kind of person. I’m the kind of person who’s gut reaction is to say, “no” and then change my mind later.
I’m hesitant - the cautious type - I don’t want to commit till I know exactly what I’m jumping into.
Sometimes I wonder what I miss out on because of this.
I wonder if I was Mary, if I would have missed out on carrying, and raising, and coming to know Jesus.
What God asked Mary to do – be pregnant with the Son of God before her marriage - looked a lot like it would ruin not only her relationship with her family, but her families standing and status in the community.
It’s the kind of request I’d probably say, “No” to.
But Mary said, “Yes”.
She didn’t pray and fast for 3 months.
She just went ahead and said, “Yes”.
Maybe having an angel asks makes it easier.
I’m not sure.
I think I would have asked so many questions that eventually the angel of the Lord would have said, “Do you know what, I think we’ll just find someone else…”
I don’t know about you but I don’t want to be that way in my relationship with God.
I want to be the kind of person who trusts God with boldness.
I desire to be the kind of person who believes that God always has the best in mind for me, even when his request seems crazy.
I’ve been thinking a lot about how to become a person who says “Yes!” to God easily and I think it starts with small things.
I think it starts with us saying, “yes”, when God asks us to spend time with him.
Or when the Lord whispers we should pray for someone.
It starts with saying, “Yes”, when we feel God prompting us to invite someone out for coffee.
I don’t know about you but I think I can do that.
One day, when God asks big things of us, hopefully we’ll have learnt enough about how he always comes through to say, “Yes, I am the Lord’s servant, may your word to me be fulfilled.”
Here’s a prayer you might like to pray: I’m in God. I want to do what you want me to do and be the person you want me be. My answer is, “Yes! I’ll do it!” Thank you that I don’t do this alone but you’re with me always. Amen
What small thing is God asking you to say “yes” to? Take the risk, say yes to God and believe he’ll be with you. If you’re ready to step up and say, “yes”, to the little things join in and write, “Count me in”, in the comments.
